Exerpt from June 14, 2007 Newsletter (Father's Day)
I hope that you have someone to send a card of thanks to this weekend. Someone that you respected as you were growing up, someone that you respect now as a father/leader/mentor whom you observe sometimes. Anyone that is our role model - those that have impacted our lives - let's all try to let at least one of them know their place in making us who we are. If you have bittersweet memories of your relationship with your father, I hope you can focus on those men that have positively impacted your life. If you do not have a father alive anymore, I hope that you will be able to spend a few minutes writing down what memories you have, detailed memories, of what your father did to shape your life. Don't spend time on anything you wish he'd done - spend time on what he did do. What has shaped you into the person you are when you look in the mirror. And - without sounding "shallow" I want to say - we must all get on our knees on Sunday morning - to thank the Father that is holding our hand. Our Father that loves us above and beyond what we can even imagine - thank our God for his personal love and care for us.
